The goal of the ASD Independence page is multi-fold. I seek to create a space that will dispell societal misconceptions about individuals with high-functioning autism and Asperger's. Too often people will focus on difficulties that people with autism encounter instead of what can become possible with hard work. Ultimately, I want each young person (or young adult) with high-functioning autism or Asperger's to gain the tools needed for independence, as an adult.
Anyone that visits the website will have access to a variety of sources. In the link section you will be able find different resources that will help one become more knowledgeable about autism and a clearinghouse for information and strategies for people with high-functioning autism (and Asperger's). In the near future I will put my presentations from different conferences on different aspects of autism. Individuals will also find a different excerpts from my book; "The A Word: My Life With Asperger's and the World of Autism.
Throughout Florida I have presented on different issues facing individuals with autism and strategies that help foster independence and growth (both social and academic). If you are interested in considering me to present at your event or locale you can see the topics I can speak about in the services section.
For over five years I have consulted on a variety of issues in regards to autism, pragmatics, and educating those with ASD. My consulting extends to working with individuals. The vast majority of clients I have worked with experience substantial academic and or social growth. Please take a look in my testimonial section on what others have said of my services.
